Questions Parents Ask
Off-Road Camp FAQ
Does my child need riding experience?
No. Every camper starts with safety training and gear fitting, and beginners ride flat practice courses until they’re ready for the trails, whether on an ATV or a mountain bike. When we take our jeeps out, campers are safely strapped in for an adventurous ride-along through the muddy back trails.
What ages can join the off-road program?
Boys and girls ages 7 to 16 can ride. Younger campers start with the basics, and teens with experience move on to technical trails.
What will campers ride at off-road camp?
Campers ride ATVs on purpose-built tracks and winding forest routes, take on single-track mountain bike trails from smooth beginner loops to technical downhill runs, and join group trail tours in our Jeep Wranglers.
How do you keep campers safe on the trails?
Safety comes first. Every rider gets instructor-led training and proper gear, rides on dedicated tracks and only moves on to harder trails when they’re ready. Read more on our Health & Safety page.
Is this an overnight camp?
Yes. Long Lake Camp Adventures is an overnight sleepaway camp in Long Lake, New York, in the heart of the Adirondacks. Campers live in cabins by age group with trained counselors. See our location and camp map.
Is off-road the only activity?
No. Off-road is one of more than 60 activities at camp, from waterfront and extreme sports to horseback riding. Campers help shape their own daily schedule.
How long are sessions?
Campers stay 2, 4, 6 or 8 weeks at our overnight camp, with the full eight-week summer available on request. Current dates are on Dates & Rates.
How does my camper get to Long Lake?
Families can fly to Albany, where we meet campers and bring them to camp on our bus. Families can also fly with them, rent a car and drive. Details are on our Travel page.
Is financial aid available?
Yes. Financial aid is available to any family who needs it. Get your free Adventure Pack or call us at (914) 693-7111 and we’ll talk it through.
